Roughriders blaze through first season game
The Southern McLean Roughriders travelled to South Prairie High School to play the Royals on Friday. Senior Garrett Pfleiger began the game with a 50-yard kickoff to the Royals, who would immediately call a timeout. Hot off of the timeout, fellow senior Caden Germundson intercepted a pass, scoring the first of many touchdowns by the Roughriders. Junior Will Koch made the point after a pass to senior Karter Hansen, bringing the Roughriders’ score to 0-8.
Pfleiger returned the ball to the Royals with another 50 yard kickoff, followed by a Royals fumble. Junior Landyn Miller recovered the fumble for the Roughriders, placing them a mere three yards from the end zone. Senior Hunter Klindtworth made the three yard run for the touchdown. The point after pass was incomplete, settling the score to 0-14 Roughriders.
