Roughriders close with win against Cougars

The Southern McLean Roughriders played the Heart River Cougars in Belfield on Saturday for their final season game. The Cougars received the first kickoff from senior Dylan Williams, but would fumble the ball which would then be recovered by junior Garrett Pfleiger.
Senior Logan Schmitz made the first advance by the Roughriders, followed by an incomplete pass. The Roughriders weren’t able to reach a first down, and turned over the ball. The Cougars began with a five yard run, followed by two eight yard runs. They continued this streak with a 38 yard run. A final single yard run scored the Cougars their first touchdown of the game. The point after kick was good, bringing the score to 7-0.
After the kickoff, the Roughriders fumbled the ball and the Cougars recovered it. Heart River attempted to make a pass, but junior Hunter Klindtworth would intercept it, giving his team another chance to score. The Roughriders then went on to make strong passes, but would hit a slump and ended up turning the ball over. This would end the first quarter.
The second quarter began with a 13 yard pass from the Cougars for a touchdown. The point after kick was incomplete, and the Roughriders would receive a kickoff. Unfortunately, they struggled to make anything happen, and would turn over the ball. The Cougars would suffer the same fate, turning the ball over to the Roughriders once again.
The Roughriders began with a 10 yard pass to senior Colton Eckel, followed by an 8 yard pass to junior Karter Hansen. Unfortunately, the next pass the Roughriders threw would be intercepted by the Cougars. A pass for 20 yards resulted in another touchdown for the Cougars. The point after kick was incomplete, settling the score at 19-0.
