Roughriders first, second in Underwood

The Roughrider boys won it boy a nose in Underwood last week, tying for first place in the Cougars-hosted track meet and beating out the second place team by just a single point.
A first-place performance in the boys javelin, shot put and 4x400 relay helped seal the Roughriders’ victory in Underwood May 3. Leading Southern McLean at the meet were Dakota Harrison, Tate Bertolotto and a team of Tyler Dahme, Coltan Hyttinen, Ben Frederick and Denny Neustel, who respectively won the shot put, javelin and boys 4x400 relay. Hyttinen, Frederick and Dahme were joined by Ezra Vogle to take second in the 4x800 relay, and Hyttinen would finish second in a solo 1600-meter run.
Frederick would take fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, Owen Conoly would place sixth in the 3200-meter run and Andrew Mehlhoff would finish sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. A team of Colton Eckel, Bertolotto, Garrett Pfleiger and Neustel would take fifth in the 4x100 relay, and Eckel, Vogle, Pfleiger and Neustel would place seventh in the 4x200.
Karter Hanson would place fifth in high jump and seventh in triple jump and Bertolotto would take sixth in long jump. Cole Blazek would place fourth in shot put, with John Williams earning seventh. Blazek would also take sixth in discus and Hanson would follow just behind him in seventh place.
Overall, the boys team would tally up 82 points, putting them at a tie for first with Des Lacs-Burlington. The two winning teams would edge out Richardton-Taylor by just a single point.
