Roughriders roll past Heart River 48-26 for fifth win of the season
The Southern McLean Roughriders delivered a powerful performance Friday night, defeating Heart River 48-26 in front of a home crowd to improve their record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in Region 4 play.
The victory was fueled by an explosive offensive showing and timely defensive stops, keeping Southern McLean among the top teams in one of the state’s most competitive regions.
From the opening kickoff, the Roughriders set the tone with a fast-paced offensive attack that kept Heart River on its heels.
Quarterback play, ground production, and big gains through the air combined to give Southern McLean a balanced scoring effort, allowing them to build and maintain a comfortable lead throughout much of the game.
The Roughriders capitalized on key opportunities, converting turnovers into points and controlling possession to dictate the tempo.
Defensively, Southern McLean bent at times but didn’t break, coming up with important stops in the red zone and limiting Heart River’s ability to sustain long drives.
Their front line disrupted the Lions’ running game while the secondary forced Heart River into difficult passing situations.
