It hasn’t been a long time coming, but the regional track meet on Saturday marked the end of team-wide competition for Southern McLean. In their final hurrah, the boys and girls teams put on one of their best showings of the year with the girls team taking third place overall while the boys team finished in sixth place out of the thirteen teams in attendance. For the girls, it was a very close race for third place with Southern McLean totaling 80 points, just edging out Shiloh Christian who finished with 76. “It was a very exciting day.  We managed to keep our streak alive by once again bringing home a trophy.  Hanging on to third place was not an easy task with Shiloh’s awesome distance program scoring many points,” said Southern McLean Coach Shayla Sinclair. “We knew we had to absolutely load up our athletes in order to score points to have a chance to beat them.” Leading the charge for the ladies was Kate Fox who reined in the only individual championship on the team with a 3200m run first place finish while also taking fourth place in the 1600m. Abigail Waloch was second in the 1600m and fourth in the 800m. Both of them joined up with Alyssa Kadrmas and Haley Filipek to take an impressive state-qualifying second place in the 4x800m relay as well.
