SM golfers improving

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

It’s been a busy April for the Southern McLean golf team headed up by coach Phil Hentsch with a number of meets already in the record books. The boys’ team has seen the most action so far, having enough players to field a proper team. But the smaller girls’ team has gotten their swings in a couple of times as well. Starting off with the boys in Killdeer on April 17, Jack Zimmerman led the way with a team low 85, scoring in the top 15 of the 92-golfer field. Devin Hanson marked just under triple digits with 99 strokes, getting the second best finish for Southern McLean. The team finished with a score of 394, good for ninth place out of 13 teams in attendance. It was a change of pace at the next outing in Underwood with a 9-hole triangular meet against Central McLean and Garrison taking place in nearly freezing temperatures. Jack Zimmerman was third overall for the boys shooting a team-best 46 while teammate Gunnar Hyttinen was two places back in fifth with a score of 50.
