Southern McLean cross country compete at Becki Wells Invite

Roughriders tested themselves against some of the state’s top cross country programs Sept. 18, when they traveled to the Heart River Golf Course for the annual Becki Wells Invitational.
With a challenging course and competitive fields, the meet offered a valuable midseason measuring stick for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
The Roughriders’ boys varsity squad entered the meet knowing they would face deep rosters from larger schools, and they responded with a gritty team performance that secured an eighth-place finish out of 10 scoring teams.
Southern McLean tallied 195 points, finishing ahead of Killdeer and Trenton while placing just 10 points behind Watford City in a tightly packed middle of the standings.
Freshman standout Daniel Neumiller once again paced the team, finishing 20th overall in a field of 84 runners.
His time of 17:24.99 put him among the top small-school finishers and continued his strong season progression.
