Southern McLean opens season Friday against Carrington
The Southern McLean RoughRiders will kick off their 2025 football campaign Aug. 22, when they host the Carrington Cardinals at the Washburn High School Football Field.
The non-region matchup is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and marks the first step in what promises to be a competitive fall season for the RoughRiders.
Southern McLean will compete in the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s Class A Region 4 this year, a league that features some of the state’s toughest opponents.
Joining the RoughRiders in the region are Beulah, Bowman County, Central McLean, Dickinson Trinity, Hazen, Heart River, Killdeer, and Shiloh Christian. All nine teams enter the season eager to establish themselves in the standings.
Head Coach Beau Eriksson returns to guide the RoughRiders as they prepare to navigate a schedule filled with challenges.
Each opponent brings its own set of strengths, and the race for playoff positioning is expected to be tightly contested.
Washburn Activities Director Keith Jacobson said the community is eager to see the team back in action.
“There is great excitement with the new football season,” Jacobson said.
“Although we have a very difficult schedule, our athletes will compete at a very high level.” He added.
Friday’s home opener against Carrington provides an early test before region play begins.
The RoughRiders will look to build momentum and set the tone for the weeks ahead, while also giving fans their first glimpse of the team’s potential.
