Southern McLean takes the trophy

Friday marked the standoff between the Garrison Troopers and our very own Southern McLean Roughriders for the Mega Bowl trophy, the game taking place on the Washburn field. The first quarter would be slow, consisting of only minor movements by the Troopers. The Roughriders wouldn’t let this stop them from fighting, and junior Garrett Pfleiger would intercept a Trooper pass, effectively changing the mood on and off the field. Despite the sudden burst of spirit from the Roughriders, no points would be scored in the first quarter.
The second quarter would start with a 22-yard run by senior Matthew Leidholm, followed by runs from fellow senior Logan Schmitz. These runs would lead to the first touchdown of the game. The point after pass to junior Devin Sailer would be good, tallying the score 8-0. A kickoff by senior Dylan Williams would lead to a fumble recovery by the Roughriders, giving them another opportunity to score.
Southern McLean would not take this opportunity for granted, and a 40-yard pass from Williams to senior Turner Grumbo would give them the chance they needed to score. Two runs by Schmitz later and another Roughrider touchdown would be marked down in the books, The point after pass would be no good, but that did nothing to the spirit on the field.
