The votes are in for All-Conference and All-Region football

By Danielle Abbott

At the end of the regular and playoff football seasons, the most outstanding and valuable players are honored. Washburn players are selected to two separate teams, the Missouri Valley All Conference team, and the All-Region team. The all-region team is made up from the teams within Washburn’s conference, and other teams to the southwest of Washburn, including Mott, Richardton and Hettinger. The teams are assembled when coaches select key players, and then every coach votes to determine the final first and second team players. Four Cardinals made the Missouri Valley All-Conference first team. Those players were seniors Kyle Sailer and Charlie Retterath, junior Mitch Wachendorf and sophomore Jeff Rasmussen. Juniors Justin Petersen and Joe Freidig both made the all-conference second team. Stepping up in the rankings, Washburn had two first team All-Region players, senior Charlie Retterath as a defensive lineman, and junior Mitch Wachendorf as a linebacker.
