Tight battle in Hazen sees Washburn hold off late rally from Post 189

In a closely contested Legion baseball showdown Tuesday evening, Washburn Post 12 edged Hazen Post 189 by a final score of 3-2, surviving a late push by the home team to secure the road win.
The game began with a jolt of offense from Washburn, who put up three runs in the top of the first inning.
That early production proved to be the difference, as neither team would score more than a run in any other frame.
Washburn’s offense came from up and down the lineup, with eight total hits on the evening. Colton Becher led the way, going 2-for-3 at the
plate with a pair of singles.
Ethan Retterath drove in one run while going 1-for-3, and Charles Sannes also tallied an RBI in a 1-for-3 effort.
Additional hits came from Hunter Wolff (1-for-3 with a walk), Alex Retterath (1-for-4), Jack Retterath (1-for-4), and Hudson Wolff (1-for-3).
Despite the early success, Hazen’s pitchers held Washburn scoreless over the final six innings.
The bulk of Washburn’s victory came on the arm of pitcher Jack Retterath, who turned in a commanding performance.
