Washburn and Wilton-Wing close out football regular season together

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

One all but looking ahead to a play-off match-up less than a week away and the other taking the field for their definite last game of the year -- those were the two teams that met last Tuesday in Wilton to close out the regular season. The Washburn Cardinals’ highflying offense was in full swing despite numerous penalties that brought back a number of big plays. The Wilton-Wing Miners put together several impressive drives and scored twice in the first half. At the final whistle, the dust settled and the 62-12 score ended the game in favor of the Cardinals. Both teams scored on their first drive of the game. The Cardinals used their tried and true combination from QB Jeff Rasmussen to WR Monty Johnson to mark the first of many trips Washburn would make into the end zone. Wilton-Wing, putting everything out there in their last game, scored on the next possession. Using their halfback pass play that they’ve had some success on during the year, the Miners got into position for Connor Thompson to take it in for a touchdown.
