Washburn Cardinal golf approaches season’s end

By Don Winter

The Washburn Cardinals golf teams saw their season wrap up on Monday, May 18 with their participation in the area’s regional events. For the boys, Jeff Rasmussen qualified for state in Jamestown with a 76. That score was good enough for a third place finish at the regional meet. Other scores of note for the boys was Camden Moran, who shot an 81. That score was good enough for eleventh place, with Camden missing the state tournament by one stroke. As a team the boys finished in fifth place, ten strokes away from qualifying for state. Coach Hentsch was pleased with the effort put forward by his team, "I would like to say I am proud of the way the boys played today. They did their best but came up short. I am hoping this will give them more motivation for next year." On the girls side, the season came to an end a little earlier than expected with three players leaving the squad before season’s end. That loss took away any chance of the Lady Cardinals earning a team berth for state play, and in the end only two members would compete in regionals. Hanna Borner placed ninth with a 103. That mark was good enough to qualify for the girls state tournament to be held in Carrington on May 26 and 27.
