Washburn Cardinals battle through busy week with mixed results
The Washburn Cardinals volleyball team packed in three matches over a five-day stretch last week, emerging with a pair of victories and one tough district setback.
The results showcased the team’s grit in tight situations while also highlighting areas still in need of growth as October approaches.
Washburn opened the week on the road against Wilton-Wing in a rivalry catchup Sept. 23.
The two squads traded blows all night, with neither side willing to give an inch.
The Miners pushed the Cardinals to the limit, but Washburn leaned on its serving and defensive coverage in the fifth set to hold on for a 3-2 victory.
It was the kind of hardfought win that can provide momentum, especially in district play, where every set matters.
