Washburn Cardinals look to take next step in year two of system
With the 2025 boys’ basketball season tipping off this month, the Washburn Cardinals enter the winter determined, experienced, and motivated to reclaim a spot in the regional tournament.
Head Coach Joshua Sharp, now in his second year running a revamped system, believes the foundation laid last season, and strengthened over the offseason, has the Cardinals trending in the right direction.
“We are progressing at a rate I am okay with,” Sharp said. “It is the second year of us running a new system. I like the growth and understanding I am seeing. Some of the issues we had last year seem to be corrected, but we still have things to work on.”
The Cardinals fell short of reaching the regional tournament last season, something Sharp openly acknowledges and uses as motivation for the group.
With the addition of Flasher; one of Region 5’s strongest programs, to District 8 this year, the path to postseason advancement becomes even more competitive.
