Washburn falls to Shiloh

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

The Cardinals had a good season, probably better than most people would have anticipated. Taking second place in the district tournament would have normally put them into a good position to come into the regional tournament with an advantage in their first game; one that could have helped them get a head of steam as they moved deeper into the bracket. Not this year. The Shiloh Skyhawks, in the running for the best team in the region, somehow fell to third place in the District 9 Tournament making them the Cardinals’ opponent in the opening round of regionals at the Bismarck Civic Center. In their first meeting, the Skyhawks systematically dismantled the Cardinals to the tune of 65-29. This time around, the Washburn team was hoping to be more competitive on both ends of the floor and for the first quarter of their game it looked like they had it in them. Zach Schell opened up the scoring with an easy backdoor layup and then Caleb Weisgarber hit two free throws on the next possession to put Washburn up 4-0.
