Washburn Girls regain momentum heading into District Tournament

The Washburn girls basketball team worked through a challenging and productive stretch of games last week, responding to an early setback with renewed energy and focus as the District 8 tournament approaches.
Washburn opened the week Feb. 3 hosting undefeated Central McLean.
The Cardinals struggled to find rhythm against one of the top teams in the state and fell 59 to 25. Central McLean controlled the pace from the opening tip, limiting Washburn’s scoring opportunities and forcing tough possessions throughout the night.
Following the loss, head coach Jarod Obering said the game served as an important wake up call for his team.
“After watching the CMC film, the girls realized how hard they did not play nor execute,” Obering said. “They have responded in a very positive way. They have really picked up their intensity, which we are excited to see.”
That response showed up quickly.
On Thursday, Feb. 5, Washburn bounced back at home with a 46 to 39 win over Bowman County.
