Washburn girls shake off holiday break rust

The Washburn Cardinals girls basketball team emerged from the holiday break with a mixed set of results, posting a 1–2 stretch across three contests as they worked to regain rhythm and momentum in the heart of the Division B schedule.
Washburn opened the post-break slate Jan. 29, at home against Park River, falling 42–35 in a tightly contested defensive battle.
Both teams struggled to fi nd consistent off ensive fl ow, with possessions at a premium throughout the evening.
Park River was able to create just enough separation late, capitalizing on key stops and timely baskets to pull away in the closing minutes, while Washburn was unable to mount a fi nal rally.
The Cardinals quickly responded the following night, Dec. 30, with a strong 60–45 win over Drayton.
Washburn set the tone early with improved ball movement and a more assertive off ensive approach, building a steady lead and maintaining control throughout the contest.
