Washburn Post 12 opens season with back-to-back victories

The Washburn Post 12 American Legion baseball team could not have asked for a much better start to its summer campaign.
Powered by dominant pitching from Ethan Retterath and a productive offense that combined for 27 hits, Washburn opened the season with a pair of convincing victories, defeating the Hazen Astros 10-0 on June 4 before following it up with a 10-3 road win over the Bismarck Barons on J une 8.
The two victories showcased a balanced lineup capable of producing runs throughout the batting order while also highlighting a pitching staff that has the potential to keep opponents off the scoreboard.
Washburn’s season opener against Hazen was controlled from start to finish.
After a scoreless first inning, Post 12 broke through with a run in the second before exploding for six runs in the third inning to seize command of the contest.
Washburn added three more runs in the fourth and closed out the 10-0 victory after five innings.
The offense finished with 11 hits and took advantage of two Hazen errors while playing a clean defensive game of its own.
Hudson Wolff paced the attack with three RBIs while going 1-for-4. Hunter Wolff delivered a strong performance at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Tanner Fiedler also drove in three runs while collecting two hits, helping lead the middle of the lineup. River Kjelstrup and Ethan Retterath each recorded two-hit games, while Oscar Wood and Chase Becher added hits of their own.
