Washburn teams win double-header in Underwood

By Adam Thomas

The Washburn Cardinal Basketball teams took part in their first double-header game of the year against Underwood last week and both the boys and girls teams saw similar success in their matchups. The Washburn girls led comfortably for the entire game on their way to an easy 43-24 victory. In the other game, the boys had a tougher time, but once the Cardinal shooters came alive in the third quarter, the game was firmly in their hands, ending 60-40. Girls. The Washburn girls were once again led by the shooting stroke of Spanky Clayton who had the only double-digit scoring total for either team with 28 points. By half-time, the Cardinals had put together an 11-point lead with the score 20-9. Coming out into the third quarter, it was more Clayton for the Cardinals as she scored first by taking a steal for a layup on the other end and added another three points for Washburn on a shot from behind the arc.
