West Region softball kicks off

With sanctioned softball getting nixed for the summer, a group of Class B teams pulled together to keep play going between eight local teams. The North Dakota High
School Activities Association cal led of f summer sports seasons, but that didn’t stop West Region softball coaches, who came together to form an impromptu West Region
League, which played its first games last week. Trevor Yetterboe, coach for the Wilton-Wing Miners softball team, said Washburn and Wilton co-oped for the summer league and played Heart River in the season opener last week. The teams split during the two games. “All the girls got playing time and had a lot of fun,” Yetterboe said. Yetterboe said the league started when Class B coaches in the Eastern half of the state started pursuing the endeavor, sparking interest in the West Region teams. “I emai led the Class B coaches of the western side to see if there was any interest,” Yetterboe said. “Coaches then reached out to players, and they got a good response.”
