Wilton-Wing boys top Beulah, fall to Standing Rock

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

In a couple of games last week that are ripe for parody, the Wilton-Wing Miners first faced off against the Beulah Miners in a game that would determine who the rightful owner of the ‘Miner’ name was. The second game, the Miners went to work on the Standing Rock Warriors. Wilton-Wing and Beulah metaphorically slugged it out for the entire game and it was Wilton who landed the last punch, 71-69. Against the Warriors, Wilton-Wing dug themselves a huge first quarter hole that they nearly got themselves out of but Standing Rock managed to hold on just long enough to win, 66-60. In the game against Beulah, Wilton-Wing managed to hold the upper hand at the end of every quarter, if only very slightly. Andy Mokena had a standout first half, scoring 12 of his 14 points before halftime. Both teams picked up their scoring in the fourth quarter. Dillon Loper continued to hit shots on his way to 19 points and Cory Keating scored his first points of the game, adding four more to his team’s total in the final quarter.
