Wilton-Wing splits the week
The Wilton-Wing Miners volleyball team experienced the highs and lows of competition last week, dropping a tightly contested five-set battle to Washburn before bouncing back with a decisive sweep over Center-Stanton.
On Sept. 23, the Miners hosted the Washburn Cardinals in what turned into one of their most competitive matches of the season.
Wilton-Wing came out strong, pushing the Cardinals from the opening serve and trading momentum throughout the night.
Each set was a test of endurance, with both sides stringing together runs and showcasing scrappy defense.
The Miners managed to take two sets, keeping themselves in position for an upset, but Washburn proved just a bit steadier in the decisive moments, escaping with a narrow 3-2 victory.
While the loss stung, especially on their home floor, the Miners left the court knowing they had gone toeto-toe with a strong district opponent.
The performance displayed both their potential and their need to tighten up execution when matches go the distance.
Just two nights later, Wilton-Wing had the chance to reset against Center-Stanton, and the Miners took full advantage.
