The Wilton-Wing Miners continued their strong play this past week, earning two victories and one narrow loss across three matches as they moved to 12-10 overall on the season.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Heidi Weisgarber, the Miners swept Standing Rock Community and Killdeer before dropping a tight threeset battle against Divide County at the Washburn Invitational Tournament.
On Oct. 2, the Miners took care of business at home against Standing Rock Community, earning a decisive 3-0 victory (25-11, 25-17, 25-22).
Wilton-Wing controlled the pace of the match from the opening serve, showing poise and balance throughout the contest.
The win marked a strong start to their October schedule and provided momentum heading into the weekend tournament.
At the Washburn Invitational on October 4, the Miners opened pool play with a strong showing against Killdeer, winning 2-0 (25-19, 25-20).
Their crisp execution and strong serving put them in control for much of the match.
However, their second contest of the day proved to be a test of endurance and focus. Facing Divide County, Wilton-Wing took the first set 25-18, but narrowly dropped the second 26-24 before falling 15-10 in the decisive third.
Despite the loss, the Miners showcased strong teamwork and resilience throughout the day.
Coach Weisgarber praised her team’s chemistry and perseverance during the recent stretch of competition.
“They’ve been doing a great job at working together and staying positive through some tough matches,”
she said. “We need to work on limiting our errors. I always tell them, ‘control what we can control,’ which is our side of the net.”
