A little push and masks appear

A little push and masks appear

By ALLAN TINKER
This spring, quilting was suspended at Grace Lutheran Church due to COVID-19. Jess Boehm, on Facebook, suggested that maybe someone could make face masks and posted a video on how to make them. In this great time of need, isolation, and creative talents ready for expression, the push was all that was needed. Bev Helm, who loves to sew, and is
in charge of Mission Stewardship at the church, said she would sew but didn’t have many of the needed supplies, mostly the elastic. Sandy Felchle, one of the Sheridan
County Commissioners, volunteered to donate and order the needed elastic. 100 meters of elastic soon appeared. With another person taking a small amount for another project, Helm soon used up the elastic and is now on the second roll. From her position of authority as Mission Stewardship chairperson in charge, she “pilfered” their quilting
supplies at Grace Lutheran and was in full production in short order. Since all the supplies were donated and Helm says, “I work for free,” there is no charge for those who need the
masks. When one local pastor asked if she would sell him some, she answered, “No.” Before he could recover from the rejected offer, she told him, with a smile, “I give them away. How many do you want?” “I enjoy sewing on them, especially since it keeps my hands busy and out of the snacks.
