Dental assistant well-versed in work ethic

By ALLAN TINKER

To call her a worker would be an understatement. Carol A. Kitchens was born to James and Gloria Anderson in Nashville, Tennessee and to a family that knew how to work. Her father was a self-employed contractor and her mother a homemaker and helper for the contracting business. Kitchens has one younger brother.

Kitchens graduated from Hendersonville High School in the town of Hendersonville, a suburb north of Nashville. She married right out of high school and had two sons Derek, 35, and Stephen, 30, and one daughter Lauren, 32.

In 1988 she was back in school at Reynards College in Richmond, Virginia, the home of her husband to be, Joel Kitchens. He was also a student in diesel mechanics, work that he still does today in North Dakota for Caterpillar in Bismarck.

She "almost" has her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. She worked as a waitress over the years and then became a trained and certified paralegal and worked for law
