Essigs recognized for service to county

With Hugo Essig officially receiving recognition for his service as elected treasurer for Sheridan County, Frances was also there to note her service as “deputy” as well. The two were part of the Sheridan Centennial observances at the Sheridan County Courthouse on July 17, 2009.
On hand for his parents’ recognition were son Duaine and his wife, Janice. Duaine also drove them in the parade the next day; Hugo as the oldest member of the local McClusky Lions Club. Duaine is also a Lion and present Governor of Multiple 5M – sub district 4 of Minnesota – N.W. Ontario and Manitoba Lions Clubs International.
Hugo served as county treasurer from 1975, serving until 1983. He also joined the McClusky Lions in the 70’s.
Frances had worked for the county treasurer for two years when Jack Schindler was in the position and continued after Hugo was elected.
They had also worked together for 20 years as school custodians for the McClusky School District from 1955 to 1975.
They are both members of the local Republican District and active in the Methodist Church. The UMW group gave Frances her first plane ride when she attended a UMW event in Anaheim, CA. Hugo added that his first plane ride was with Orrin Holen in his private plane. “I really hung on,” he laughed.
