Helm takes Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

By ALLAN TINKER
On the tenth day of April 2022, Arlington Helm took the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. As he put it, “They treated us like kings.” The “kings” were attended to by 40 volunteers which, as Helm relates, were “ready with wheelchair, canes, or whatever was needed.” He noted the wellorganized flight is still a tough trip for those who are in their later years of life. The flight lasted three hours and, upon arrival in Baltimore Maryland, it took 30 minutes to drive into D.C. He was an “orange bus rider” and there was a color for each bus and its riders. The orange
bus tag was included with their introductory package that told them what to expect on the trip. They had an orientation the Sunday before the trip so that both he and Phyllis would know what was going on. She did not go on the trip with him. “Nearly all the volunteers were women,” Helm noted. “Roll call was called at every move, so no one got left behind or lost."
