If the number of absentee ballots already returned to election officials at the Sheridan County Auditor Shirley Murray predicts that voter turnout will be high. Murray noted previous general election vote tallies and the prediction for this year: Year 2000 Total number of votes cast - 954; Year 2004 Total number of votes cast - 951; Year 2008 Total number of estimated votes to be cast - 800. County positions are unchallenged: Supervisor, Soil Conservation District, Chadwick (Chad) Rauser; Director, Garrison Diversion Conservancy, Tim Schindler; County Commissioner, 2nd District, Michael Axt. Axt was opposed by primary election write-in candidate Tom Saueressig but Saueressig withdrew his name from the names to be placed on the ballot. Axt had (since primary election) accepted a job as the vocational agriculture instructor at McClusky School District and had considered withdrawing from the race also. After finding out that Saueressig had already withdrawn, he kept his name on the ballot.
