JDA sponsors reporting on Rural X summit

By ALLAN TINKER
McClusky Job Development Authority (JDA) recently sponsored Katy Kassian for a report on the Rural X Summit.
Rural X, a project of neighboring South Dakota’s Dakota Resources organization, is a champion for rural communities and a catalyst for economic development. Some of the sponsors for the event included Farm Credit Services, Wells Fargo, South Dakota Farm Bureau, Coca-Cola Bottling Company and a host of others. Some sponsors focused on inspiration projects, others on opportunity, contributed in-kind, offered their resources or were partners in similar rural support efforts such as DakotaFire Magazine.
Kassian, from Regan, is a member of several entrepreneurial groups such as 1 Million Cups, Women’s Entrepreneurial Group of Bismarck, OTA, and others. Some, if not all of these groups, offer cross sharing of information, support and projects that support rural communities in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana.
Kassian was also one of six finalists in the Farm and Ranch Guide’s “Country Woman of the Year.” She and her husband Tom farm near Regan, from where Kassian said she is 20 miles from anywhere else. She travels this distance for veterinarian services, groceries, gas, supplies, work and other necessities in life and running a farm and ranch.
