McClusky council approves budget adjustments to retain sheriff's coverage
The McClusky City Council approved budget adjustments during a special meeting Sept. 29 aimed at retaining law enforcement coverage through the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office after learning the county would not accept a partial payment proposal for the coming year.
Mayor Samantha Roubal said the city offered $25,000 to maintain sheriff's services for another year but was informed the contract was an "all or nothing" arrangement, meaning the city must either pay the full contract amount or forgo sheriff's coverage.
According to Roubal, the 2027 contract amount is expected to total $41,255, which includes sheriff's office services and participation in task forces. She noted the contract contains a 3% annual increase.
"If we are going to negotiate contracts, we need to do that in June moving forward," Roubal said.
