McClusky daycare remains financially strained as board seeks additional families, funding

The future of childcare in McClusky remained a central concern during a special meeting of the McClusky Job Development Authority on Sept. 29, as board members discussed the daycare's ongoing financial struggles and efforts to secure additional funding and enrollment.
According to financial information reviewed during the meeting, the daycare continues to spend more money each month than it generates through tuition and reimbursements. Officials reported without a recent JDA loan and private donation, the facility would have ended the month approximately $2,100 in the red.
“We have much more going out than we have coming in,” said McClusky Auditor Amanda Saueressig, noting the loan and grant is keeping the daycare open.
Saueressig said the daycare needs an estimated $2,500 to $3,000 in additional monthly revenue to become financially sustainable.
The daycare recently received a $2,000 loan from the JDA to cover expenses, including payroll. Officials acknowledged the facility currently does not have enough funds on hand to cover its next payroll period and are working to improve cash flow through billing, enrollment growth and grant opportunities.
