Red Hats and apron strings

Red Hats and apron strings

BY ALLAN TINKER
They were a colorful group, and they all had a story to tell. The Red Hat Society “Red Hearts” of McClusky met for one of their special events at the Reunion Bar and Grill on August 23. Fifteen club members and one guest enjoyed lunch and a display of aprons and the story around each one. The group included hosts Mayola Holen and Marlene Ripplinger, Mabel Tkach, Bev Zingg, Lois Weltz, Rita Cermak, Lynn Helm, Shirley Barreth, Myrna Nigrin, Linda Bowers, Marie Engel, Earleen Miller, LuAnn Knutson, Lois Lasher, Donna Murray, and
guest Marilyn Tkach. Each presented an apron and a bit of history connected with it, leaving out only the aprons men wore while welding
and other such chores. Instead, these were the aprons that saw meals cooked, children comforted, and eggs gathered.
