Sheridan County Commissioners welcome new member

By GABLE RHOADS

New Sheridan County Commissioner Steve Eisenbeisz was welcomed by Commissioners Mike Axt and Howard Erdmann at the December meeting. Eisenbeisz was elected to represent the First District after Eldon Ehrman decided to not run for re-election.

The commissioners approved Sheridan County Sheriff Trent Naser’s request that two of the departments Kevlar vests be replaced. He said the maximum recommended life of a vest is five years and the department’s vests are older.

The Department

of Justice offers a grant that pays for approximately 50% of the costs.

Naser requested vests which are worn over the uniform. He said the vests are much more user friendly. The old vests are worn under the uniform.

Naser also reported there is money left in the budget due to the county being without a deputy for part of this year and because there was fewer costs related to prisoner housing this year.

The commissioners approved the Sheriff’s Dept. contract with the City of McClusky. The contract stipulates the sheriff’s department will provide 20 hours of policing for the city at a cost of $2,166 a month. The 20 hours includes duties such as licensing pets and enforcing laws.
