On Labor Day, September 5, 2022, 13 area home school children accompanied by their parents, visited and toured the Sheridan County
Historic Museum located in Goodrich, North Dakota. The children spent time in the one room schoolhouse listening to our guest speaker, Connie Erdmann. As she talked about how it was when she went to school, the children asked questions. One of the boys asked,
“Where did they spend detention if they got in trouble?’ Connie answered them, “They didn’t really have detention, but if you got in trouble in school, there was the “naughty” seat, which was in the very front of the classroom right in front of the teacher’s desk which you had to sit in the rest of the day.” Connie also informed the children that she didn’t actually attend a one room schoolhouse. She attended a rural country school. Connie also told them about the games that they would play on the playground, since there was no playground equipment to play on. They played fox and goose, ante-high-over, softball, tag or just used their imaginations to make games up.
