Susan Ebach speaks on need for pool lifeguards

Wednesday afternoon, Susan Ebach, manager at the Kathy Davis Memorial Pool, spoke to high school students during lunch hour about the need for lifeguards
this summer. Students must be age 15 to take the classes needed to become certified. Ebach said there are classes to take at the YMCA and Bismarck Park & Recreation.
After completing the first summer, the lifeguard is reimbursed half the cost of certification and, at the end of the second summer, the other half. McClusky’s pool hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily, with some occasional exceptions. Starting pay is $8.50 per hour. Job responsibilities are to open the pool, remove the pool cover, clean and net the pool (vacuum), wash down and sanitize the deck, clean bathrooms/dressing rooms, and test pool water. During the shift, bathrooms/dressing rooms need to be checked, and cleaned, if necessary. At the end of shift, toys removed from pool and pool cover placed. Deck needs to be cleaned, bathrooms checked, toilets flushed, if necessary, and the office straightened up.
