Touch of Mardi Gras meeting follow-up

By ALLAN TINKER

It wasn’t part of the meeting but the touch of Mardi Gras that was courtesy of Lynn and Jennifer Meserole will not be soon forgotten. A new thing to everyone present but them was the twisted bread-roll covered in bright colors and marked with a cross. It tasted much like a sweet bread/cinnamon streusel only wasn’t one.

According to information given, King Cake is similar to coffee cake, but the ring-shaped confection is steeped in tradition and history.

Decorations for the cake include the traditional colors of Mardi Gras selected by Rex, the King of Carnival, in 1892: purple, representing justice, green, (faith) and gold (power).

The cake also honors the three kings who visited the Christ child on Epiphany, the 12th day after Christmas.

Somewhere inside the King Cake, someone will find a plastic baby representing the baby Jesus.
