Wrapping up 2021

Wrapping up 2021

July
2021 First place winner in the McClusky Midsummer Fest Main Parade entries was Holen’s Super Valu in the commercial category. The non-commercial first place went to Lee Pellman with his 2MH-IH corn picker; second place went to McClusky Class of 1991; and third place was the McClusky Class of 1990 entry. Sheridan County Farmers Union and Sheridan County 4-H sponsored a Farm Safety Day on Friday, June 25, at the 4-H building at Hoffer Lake. Approximately 25 kids attended to learn safety at the farm. Sunday, July 11, Sheridan County’s first portion of 4-H Achievement Days was held at Hoffer Lake 4-H building and grounds. In the early afternoon, static exhibits judging of the 4-H participants took place as well showing their exhibits. At 5 p.m., the door opened to the public for viewing the exhibits. Supper was served by 4-H parents and sponsored by
the McClusky Co-op Elevator. They served hamburger, hotdogs, brats, beans, chips, fruit, beverages and a cake baked and decorated by Marge Rau.
August
With rain hit or miss in its pass-throughs in Sheridan County and other areas, crops showed the effect of the random hits of moisture. With each round of moisture,
thoughts of “at last, rain” were fleeting, with the pattern not consistent in its path through the areas. Neighboring farms, often less than a mile apart, reported varying amounts of moisture, with some as high as an inch, other farms more, some not receiving any at all. With temperatures at high all-time averages in the 90s to more than 100 degrees, the
moisture was quickly lost in the hot sun and strong winds.
