Writings by Mary

By ALLAN TINKER
This is an introduction to the writings of Mary (Dahlager) Heitzman, who was an English and music teacher in my high school years in the 1950s. It is with great delight that I received her phone call and she volunteered some of her writings for publication. She was gently encouraged by those who knew her talents, to share her work, as she does her music talents at piano and voice presentations. She tells her story as follows, and more background will follow in the weeks ahead, as well as her stories of true happenings disguised with names that are not true. Mary writes,” Our family left Florida when I was three years old and spent the winter with my father’s people in Minnesota. In the spring we moved out to our old farmhouse between Valley City and Jamestown. After a year working for WPA, we moved to Valley City where my dad worked at the courthouse dispensing commodities.
