Year End Review

The United Community Baptist Church in Anamoose, a merger of area churches: the Baptist Church of Anamoose, Rosenfeld Baptist Church of Drake, and the Drake Baptist Church. They celebrated their centennial anniversary on Saturday, July 12 and 13. The United Methodist Church of McClusky celebrated its 100-year anniversary on July 13 with Dr. Rod Tkach, son of Mabel Tkach and the late George Tkach, as speaker. The hundred-year old place of recreation for the City of Mercer, McLean County and surrounding area residents, Brush Lake, celebrated its anniversary on July 5, 6, 12, and 13. A donated amount of $302 was raised for "Locks of Love" on Friday, July 11 when beautician and 205 Main Street Salon owner Babett Halstad shaved Jim Crimmins’ head following the 2008 Midsummer Fest softball game. Midsummer Fest Adult Division Bed Race Champions were Grant Saueressig, Stewart Wahl, Andy Werth and Ryan Dockter. Winners in the 2008 Turtle Days on Saturday were USA races: first place, Kelby Cox with her turtle Squirt, from Fruitland, Idaho; World Race first place and USA second place winner was Alyssa Farms with her turtle Freddy, from McClusky, ND, who received a trophy and USA third place winner, Nathan Ball, with his turtle Stormy, from Minot, ND, who also received a trophy.
