CM’s Sellon qualifies in high jump

By Suzanne Werre

Central McLean’s Mariah Sellon became the first state qualifier for the girls team this season, qualifying in the high jump at the Southern McLean Invitational in Washburn on Friday.

The junior jumper, who is a veteran of the state meet, won the high jump with a state qualifying height of 5’2".

The jump also ties Sellon for the school record, noted Coach Lee Weisgarber.

Sellon scored 20 points for the Cougar girls, who placed third as a team with 51 points. Rugby won the team competition with 126 points, followed by Beulah with 54.

Sellon also won the long jump with a leap of 16’4", just an inch short of qualifying for state.

"Many of our girls had impressive showings on Friday," said Weisgarber.

Mackenzie Snyder placed in all four of her events, scoring 13 points. Maggie Eng, Emily Eichhorst and McKenna Wilson all placed in three events, with the four runners teaming up for the second-place mile relay.

In field events, Christina Hirschkorn added some throwing points by placing fifth in the shot put.

In boys’ action, Rugby won the team competition with 137 points, followed by Southern McLean with 101.5. Central McLean scored 12 points, led by Cole Wilson, who scored 6.5 for the meet.
