Comets trip Trojans

The Underwood Comets tripped up the Trojans Tuesday night to claim the second seed in the district tournament. The Trojans slipped to third place and will play the second game of the District 10 Tournament against Wilton/Wing Nov.3 in Wilton.

Center/Stanton and Underwood received first round bye in the District 10 Tournament that runs Nov. 3.4 and 6.

The loss to the Comets drops the Trojans to 3-2 in district play; 5-7 in regular season play; and 15-13 in overall play, including tournaments.

The Trojans have two matches this week to end the regular season. Tuesday night the Trojans host Standing Rock and Thursday night it is a bus trip to Flasher.

Tatum Fylling led the Trojans with 15 kills and eight blocks. Zoe Smalls tallied 30 assists and Mariah Sellon 16 digs.

Erin Damman led the Comets with 11 kills, 1 block, 11 assists and 11 digs.

An ace from Katelynn Presser put the Trojans on the scoreboard first in the first set. The Trojans managed to hold a slight lead with Tasha Williams getting a kill and an ace, along with a kill from Mariah Sellon. A kill from Presser gave the Trojans a 10-8 lead

The Comet put together a little run with Brooke Weisenberger getting a pair of kills and a kill from Erin Dammann tied the set at 13.

A couple of kills from Fylling gave the Trojans a 17-14 lead but kills from Lindsey Duben and Dammann closed the gap to 17-16. Dammann got a kill to tie the set at 17.

The Comets took a 21-18 lead after back-to-back aces from Dammann.

The Trojans didn’t get any closer as a tip for the set-winning point 25-22 for the Comets came from Lindsey Landenberger,

The second set saw a lot of errors on both teams and very few offensive points scored. Fylling got a couple of kills to give the Trojans a 14-9 lead but the Trojans gave points on three consecutive missed kills to close the gap to 14-12.
