The Central McLean Cougars all but wrapped up a playoff berth this past weekend when they knocked off region foe Parshall-White Shield 30-6 at Parshall.
Senior quarterback Aaron Morman led the Cougars offensively and defensively, scoring twice on the ground with 14 and 63-yard runs, and he apparently decided he wasn’t getting his hands on the ball quite enough, so he picked off a pair of Parshall passes as well, one of them an end-zone pick that quashed the Braves’ third-quarter offensive threat.
Morman finished the game with 140 yards on eight carries, while senior speedster half-back Dylan Ruff rushed for 155 yards on 12 carries, including the game-clinching 80-yard TD score in the fourth quarter. Senior back Dalton Hirschkorn also scored for Central McLean, scooting in from the five-yard line to cap second-quarter scoring, giving the Cougars a 22-0 lead at the break.
“Aaron had an excellent game running the ball,” praised Cougar coach Kevin Dockter. “If I had to single anybody out on offense, it would have to be Dylan and Aaron.
“It was a tough, physical game. It was a big win for us,” added Dockter. “I think on defense, we bent, but we didn’t break.”
The Cougars were able to reel in Parshall’s big-yardage go-to guy Dexter Two Crow, giving up just one rushing touchdown for the game.
“He got some yardage. He’s a tough runner and they had some other physical kids, too,” said Dockter. “It was a tough place to play, and I was really proud of our guys. It was a big win.”
