Dammen qualifies in discus

Home-field advantage doesn’t usually come into play at track meets, but Central McLean’s Mariah Sellon used her home field to give notice to her opponents that she’s in the hunt for a state title in the long jump, as she cleared the qualifying distance by more than a foot, leaping 17-6 to win the event at the Central McLean Invitational last Thurday. Qualifying standard for girls Class B in the long jump is 16-5. Sellon has also already qualified in the high jump.

Sellon will be joined at state by junior Nick Dammen, who placed first in the meet with his state-qualifying throw of 145-4. The qualifying mark for Class B boys in the discus is 140’.

Dammen also took the top spot in the shot with his throw of 42-2.

In other boys’ action, Cole Wilson placed fourth in the shot, third in the mile open, and was a member of the third place two-mile relay team and second place mile relay team.

Alex French placed in three of his four events, his best finish coming in the two-mile open, as he finished second with a time of 13:27.65.
