TLMM Trojans beat Garrison Troopers

The Turtle Lake-Mercer Mc-Clusky Trojans beat the Garrison Troopers in both games of a girls and boys double-header on Jan. 4 at Garrison.
The girls won 59-44. Kim Tkach was the scoring leader with 17 points. Kelsey Everett was also in double figures with 13 and Jaime White Bear poured in 12.
McKenzie Matteson led the Troopers with nine points.
The boys won 63-47. Kevin Klemisch led the Trojans with 24 points, followed by Adam Peltier with 16.
Ian Mac Donald led the Troopers with 15 points.
Both games were district games and both the boys and girls are two wins and zero losses in district play.
The Trojans will have double-header games coming up with Washburn on the home court Jan.13 and at Underwood Jan.18. The girls also play at Fessenden (Harvey/Wells County) Sat. Jan. 15 in an afternoon game.
Trojans 59-Troopers 44
The Trojans raced to a 14-2 first-quarter lead against the Garrison Troopers Tuesday night. Kim Tkach and Jaime White Bear each scored six points and Jacy Hausauer scored two points in the 14-2 run.
The Troopers scored six straight points in the last 53 seconds on the first quarter to make the score 14-8 Trojans
The second quarter, the Trojans’ pressure defense caused a numbers of turnovers on the Troopers.
The Trojans capitalized on the errors and made an 11-2 run and led 25-12 at the 4:38 mark.
The Trojans lead was stretched to 32-19 by half-time as Taylor Fylling put in a base line jumper and Tkach scored off a steal and foul shot the last few seconds of the half.
The third quarter started with White Bear getting a bucket; then McKenzie Matteson and Everett traded two-pointers and three-pointers.
Sommer Johnson slipped in a triple for the Troopers to cut the Trojans’ lead to 39-27.
Everett started a 12-0 run for the Trojans at the 4:09 mark with a jumper from the right base line; then she added a lay-up.
Tkach then scored from near the foul line; White Bear scored on a steal; and White Bear assisted Tkach for a lay-up.
Everett got a bucket from the right wing for the 11th and 12th point of the run.
Johnson got a free throw with 23 second left in the third quarter and made the third quarter score 51-28 Trojans.
The Trojans’ reserves played most of the fourth quarter as the team coasted to a 59-44 win.
