Trojans defeat Miners and Thunder

BY TIM HANSON

The Turtle Lake-Mercer McClusky Trojans girls team started the 2015-2016 season with a 58-28 win over the Beulah Miners on Friday night in the McLean County Shootout held at the Turtle Lake-Mercer School.

Garrison defeated Glen Ullin/Hebron 51-45 in the first contest and Warwick beat Max 62-39.

Saturday afternoon the Trojans outlasted the Thunder from Medina-Pingree/Buchanan 34-31 at the Linton Shootout.

The Trojans raced to a 20-0 lead against the Miners in the Trojans season opener.

A little full court press by the Trojans resulted in a number of turnovers that lead to points for the Trojans.

Mariah Sellon scored seven of her game high 21 points in the first quarter.

The only two points for the Miners in the first quarter came at the sixteen second mark when Dayton Keltner connected on a pair of free throws.

The Trojans scoring pace slowed down the second quarter as they scored back-to-back buckets twice and a bucket and free throw with less than two minutes left to take a 31-8 half time lead.

A 7-0 run and a 6-0 run propelled the Trojans to a 44-14 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
