Trojans down Raiders

The Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a 3-0 win over the Drake/Anamoose Raiders Friday night on the Trojans’ home court.

Five foot, ten-inch junior middle hitter Tatum Fylling led the Trojans with nine aces, eight blocks, and six kills.

Zoe Smalls was in double figures with 16 assists.

Kailey Lemer led the Raiders with six kills, four blocks, and eight digs.

The Trojans took a 5-1 lead to start the first set with Fylling getting a block for a point.

An ace from Tasha Williams made the score 8-2 Trojans.

The Raiders then made a run when Sydney Seehafer got a kill. Georgiana Eidmann followed with an ace.

Fylling put the Trojans up 11-8 with a tip for a point.

The next two points went to the Raiders with Torri Torgerson and Gracee Buri getting kills to close the gap to 12-10 Trojans.

The Trojans went ahead 18-10 after a pair of kills from Fylling and a kill from Victoria Goven.

The next points for both teams came on errors. In one stretch the Trojans had three consecutive lifts called on them and a no-return on the Trojans tied the set at 20.

The Raiders took their turn next, giving up three points on two missed kills and a lift to put the Trojans in front 23-20.

A kill from Fylling lifted the Trojans to a 24-20 lead. Eidmann answered with a kill but next point went to the Trojans on a missed kill from the Raiders to end the first set with the Trojans in front 25-21.

The second set was very close with the Trojans holding a slight lead. The Trojans went up 20-15 after kills from Kylee Reiser, Goven and a pair of aces from Williams.

The Raiders closed the gap to 22-21 after three kills from Kailey Lemer and an ace from Seehafer.
