Trojans win two

The Trojans volleyball team picked up a pair of wins this past week to push their regular season record to 5 wins and 2 losses.

Tuesday night the Trojans defeated the Cardinals from Washburn 3-1. Thursday night the Trojans swept the Towner/Granville/ Upham Titans 3-0.

Next up for the Trojans is a home match with Center/Stanton September 24; then it is on the road to the Shiloh Tournament September 28.

Tasha Williams led the Trojans with 11 kills in the Washburn match. Tatum Fylling was also in double figures in kills with 10. Mariah Portra had 26 assists, Katelynn Presser 17 digs and Haley Zinke 7 aces.

Leaders for the Cardinals were: Kenady Hansen kills; Cierra Philbrick 13 assists; and Carly Freeman 11 digs.

The Trojans held a slight lead in the first set until a net violation and a couple of missed kill-shots and an ace from Car-dinal Carly Freeman put the Cardinals in front 12-9.

Mistakes plagued the Trojans the rest the set with them giving the last three points on side-outs and a missed kills shot, giving the Cardinals a 25-20 win.

The second set the Trojans took an 11-1 lead after Tatum Fylling and Madison Kurle put down a pair of kills each.

The Cardinals did not recover after that and a kill from Haley Zinke ended the set at 25-10 Trojans.

The third set saw the Car-dinals take a 5-0 lead but back-to-back kills from Zinke and back-to-back aces from Tasha Williams tied the set at 6.

The Trojans went up 15-9 after back-to-back kills and a block from Williams. .

A kill and an ace from Zinke put the score at 24-16 then a no return from the Cardinals ended the set with the Trojans in front 25-16.
