Braves end Eagle’s Season

By Jerry W. Kram
It was a rebuilding season for the both the New Town Eagles and the Parshall Braves, and in the end the two teams faced each other in the Region Qualifying game of the District 15 Volleyball Tournament in New Town.
While the Braves were the sixth seed in the tournament and only won a handful of games this year, they still managed to make their third consecutive trip the regional tournament.
“The girls played a great match,” said Eagles Head Coach Dyan Fox. “But Parshall is always a competitive game. We fell short, so we wish all the luck to the Braves at Regionals.”
The Eagles had the advantage in their two regular season matchs, besting the Braves 3-0 and 3-2. But when it counted, the Braves overcame their rivals in five sets, 25-18, 20-25, 14-25, 26-24, and 15-12. That earn the girls a trip the Region 8 Tournament in Stanley, where all four District 15 teams lost in the opening round of the tournament. The Braves were beaten by District 16 champion Stanley, 25-4, 25-19 and 25-13.
In the region qualifying game, neither the Braves or Eagles were able to hold serve and the score was tied at 13. The Braves got a little breathing room with a short run that put them up 18-14. The Eagles weren’t able to close the gap, so the Braves took the first set 25-18. The Eagles turned the tables in the second and third sets. In the second, the Eagles took a 5-1 lead, but the Braves tied it up at six. The score remained close, but the Braves did manage a 16-14 lead. It was the Eagles turn to catch up at 17 all, and then go on to win 25-20. The third set was all Eagles as they led from the start and took a 2-1 lead, 25-14.
