Braves fall two wins shy of state tournament

Parshall’s march toward the state Class B Boys Basketball Tournament fell one game short Tuesday night in Williston as the Braves lost in the Region 8 semifinal to the Mandaree Warriors, 68-51.
Watford City and Mandaree squared off in Thursday’s championship while Parshall met up with Tioga in the third-place game. Because the Record went to press before the completion of the third-place game look for full results in next week’s edition of the Record.
According to Parshall Head Coach Derrick Hammonds, Tuesday’s game was closer than the score indicated. In fact, the two teams traded blows most of the night until Mandaree went on an 11-point scoring run in the third quarter to pull away and get some insurance down the stretch.
The heroics of Cole Hendrickson won the opening game for Parshall on Monday against Trenton with a last-second shot and he almost resurrected the Braves from defeat on Tuesday as he went on his own little scoring rampage to pull the Braves within a point at 40-39.
